Circles define a space within – and by creating a circle, the space that existed prior to the circle is changed by the fact of the circle. In the same way, the space external to the circle is changed by the exclusion of the space within. If an object traverses the boundary of the circle, it too is changed, and it in turn changes all within the boundary of the circle, as much as its absence changes the universe surrounding the circle. “CIRCLES CONTAINING”, and “EMERGENCE” explore these concepts. If we move a circle, or if a circle moves, what happens to the space contained within it? Does it move also, or is it replaced by another universe? Does the answer depend upon whether the circle is, in fact, a two dimensional sphere? |
