"INFINITE UNIVERSE(S)"
38" x 48"

The human mind cannot grasp infinity. We put boundaries that we can comprehend and explain. If there was a "big Bang", what did the expanding universe expand into? What is nothing? Similar to ancient philosophers, even the big bang theorists seem to place the origin or center at or near us.

This painting depicts the expanding universe from our perspective, with "us" at the center. The concentric circles represent stages in our comprehension of the size and limits of our universe. The unfinished canvas at the edges symbolizes the unknowable beyond what we define. T sub 0 (center) is the state of our knowledge now -time 0. T 2 sub 0 (upper right) is the hypothetical state of knowledge of "another" universe of a civilization in another distant world at the same moment. Anti-matter is shown in the lower left as a black circular saw "eating" our universe beyond our current concept of it. Einstein's cosmological constant - "his greatest blunder" is within the black hole. There are many other symbols apparent in the full size painting.
